Early explorer's cache One of the early French explorers in what is now Wayne County, Francius Fontenroy, amassed a fortune in the fur trade. Just before his death, he buried all of his fortune on Presque Island in the Detroit River. Old records of the Northwest Territory mention this buried treasure.
